Born in 1959 in Tianjin, China. Graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1982.
Professor and doctoral supervisor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts; former Deputy Party Secretary of the Central Academy of Fine Arts; committee member of the National Urban Sculpture Art Committee; review expert for the National Art Museum of China’s collection; committee member of the National Art Museum of China’s exhibition qualification review committee; standing council member of the Chinese Sculpture Institute; committee member of the Sculpture Art Committee of the Beijing Artists Association.
His early works were primarily sculpture; in recent years he has achieved notable results in watercolour painting, and has recently begun creating jade carvings, achieving success across several artistic fields. His sculptures have been shown at numerous major exhibitions in China and abroad and have attracted significant attention.
He has created large-scale public artworks for several cities, including the memorial sculpture group at Lugou Bridge marking the 55th anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan, and a memorial sculpture at August 1st Square in Nanchang, Jiangxi; he was also chief artistic director for the sculpture at the Red Army Hall of the Museum of the Communist Party of China. He has received the Excellent Work Award at the National Urban Sculpture Achievement Exhibition and the China Public Art Academic Award.
His works are held by major national institutions and venues including the International Olympic Committee, the National Art Museum of China, the CAFA Art Museum, Tsinghua University, the National Centre for the Performing Arts, the China National Film Museum, the Beijing International Sculpture Park, the Changchun International Sculpture Park, the Fuzhou International Urban Sculpture Park, and the Shanghai municipal government; his work for the major national historical-themed creation project “Joining the WTO” is permanently held by the National Art Museum of China.
