Born in 1968, Taha Diakhaté is a Senegalese visual artist who was introduced to painting as a teenager by his uncle, the painter Mamadou Diakhaté. He began his career in the 1990s, during which time he attended the National School of Arts and developed his practice alongside other artists. Training in Germany in 2002, as well as workshops, residencies and exhibitions in Europe, have enriched his career. Rooted in Senegalese and African cultures, his work takes various forms, from painting to installation and performance. He places the human being at the centre of his reflections and questions consciousness, identity and appearances. In 2011, he presented the solo exhibition “Xoolal sa bopp” at the National Art Gallery of Dakar; in 2025, he will continue this exploration with the concept “Melokaan”.
