Maodo Sall

Born in 1986 in Mbacké, Maodo Sall is a Senegalese painter who developed his practice as a self-taught artist, through observation and experimentation. He began exhibiting in galleries in Dakar in the 2000s. Rooted in Senegalese culture, his work addresses social and historical themes through bright colours, human figures, traditional symbols and meticulous work with materials. A resident of Thiaroye, he was chosen to create a commemorative painting to mark the 80th anniversary of the Thiaroye massacre. This work pays tribute to the memory of the African tirailleurs and evokes the issues of justice and recognition surrounding this event.
