Born in 1977 in Séssène, Kemboury Bessane is a Senegalese visual artist based in Dakar. Trained at the National School of Arts in Dakar, she has been exhibiting since 2004 in Senegal and abroad, particularly in Belgium, Switzerland and Morocco. Her practice combines acrylic painting, textures and reclaimed materials, including electronic objects. By transforming these elements, she gives them a second life and invites us to look at our environment in a different way. Inspired by current affairs in Africa, her work addresses issues of identity, heritage and transformation, while expressing hope for a new Africa. She has taken part in several editions of the Dak’Art Biennale and has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
